According to most scouting reports, Manuel was not a highly effective deep ball passer. His completion percentage was above average between 0-10 yards, but on passes longer than 10 yards he was a 40% passer. Right now, he should be viewed as a read option/ west coast passer. He has the athleticism, work ethic and strength to become a great deep ball thrower, but right now that is not his strength.

Finally. A good read.

But I think Kolb takes the reigns and runs with it. People fall in love with a QB’s physical attributes. But the most important attribute is above the shoulders. All the other stuff is icing on the cake. (And you can’t make a cake of mainly icing).

Regardless, the offense will be suited towards whomever is QB. WCO, quick reads/reacts for Kolb. Read option/deep ball throwing for Manuel. It really comes down to just those two for this year.

Marrone and the organization are finally making some really good decisions for this team. The only thing left is conviction. Once they name a starter, that QB should not be looking over his shoulder for the rest of this year.
