The Bills plan on adding Jordan Palmer at QB. To make room for Palmer, the Bills have released Thad Lewis.
Lewis was a feel good story for the Bills in 2013. He was acquired in a trade with the Detroit Lions for LB Chris White on August 25th and no one expected him to make the contributions that he did in 2013.
The QB played started five games for Buffalo and went 2-3. Both wins were against the Miami Dolphins. Lewis also took the Bills into overtime against the Cincinnati Bengals before losing 27-24.
Lewis didn’t look like the same quarterback this offseason. He had struggled mightily in training camp and in the preseason. Lewis lost his backup job to Jeff Tuel during this span of time. It became apparent that Lewis’ roster spot was in danger after not appearing in the Bills-Buccaneers preseason game.
He finished this year’s preseason going 17-of-33 (51.5%) for 168 yards. He threw two interceptions and fumbled twice in his three appearances. Plenty of teams are looking for backup options, so Lewis will surely get an opportunity elsewhere.
