We Have Arrived

We Have Arrived

As #BillsMafia continues to grow, Bre, Leslie, and I (Del) are continuing to look into different ways the movement can integrate itself deeper into the fanbase. We had given thought to a blog but seeing as how we’re all pretty swamped right now with you know… real life, we decided to table the idea for the time being.

As we’ve said all along, the #BillsMafia movement belongs to all Bills fans. This has been evident in the help that has been provided pretty much from the get-go by @CaptOTM, @kirpaul, and @Shelby_Billsfan to name a few.

Enter Zachary Specht who came to us this week with the idea of running a blog, offering to be the primary author. Zachary is a Broadcast Journalism student immersed within the sporting industry on a daily basis. He has experience writing sports articles for his college’s newspaper and hosts an NFL-based talk show throughout the week. He also does play-by-play for several of the sports teams on campus. But most importantly, he loves the Bills!

Bre, Leslie, and I may drop in from time to time to author an article or post an opinion but this is Zachary’s show and we’re going to let him run with it.

The #BillsMafia blog won’t be your typical NFL-related blog. We’re going to keep it positive. You won’t find rants here calling Aaron Maybin a bust and declaring Buddy Nix a fool for trading Evans to the Ravens. Plenty of others blogs out there do that. Our goal is to be an optimistic voice that encourages both fans and players while demonstrating the love we have for our team.

We’ve also got plans to interview members of the #BillsMafia in a regular feature (yeah, we’re looking at you!). There’s enough web content out there analyzing every aspect of every NFL player, but not much pub for the people without whom there would be no NFL… the fans! So that will be your place to shine, #BillsMafia.

Lots of other ideas floating around.. We’ll see where this goes.

Thanks, and remember: #BillsMafia is more than a hashtag. It’s more than any one person. It’s a mindset. A way of life!

Del Reid

About Del Reid

Del Reid became a Bills fan shortly after coming into this world, having been raised in a home that actually had a framed picture of OJ Simpson on the wall in the living room (until it came down in 1994). Del has always had a passion for bringing people together to celebrate things they share in common. As a result, he (quite accidentally) ended up co-founding the #BillsMafia movement among Bills fans in social media -- which to this point is the coolest thing that has ever happened to him aside from his relationship with God, his wife, and his two awesome kids. Follow him on Twitter at @mrdeadlier.

  1. Nice work, guys. Thanks for creating the blog. Looking forward to reading it throughout the season.
One thing, though. You said you were going to “keep it positive.” Isn’t that what the blogs run by the Bills organization do? I don’t want to read re-hashed talking points from the organization. Living far away from Buffalo, I want to know what the fans are thinking and what the community is feeling. If Spiller turns out to be a bum (let’s hope not), I want a place to read about it and get more reaction from fans.
I’m all about keeping it optimistic. I love the Bills and will cheer them always. But I think you can bring optimism while still pointing out some of the mistakes the organization has made.
Thanks again for the blog. #BillsMafia is my new favorite hashtag on twitter.

  2. I think what Del means is that this is not the place to personally rip on players or simply shout “the bills suck!” These are the types of useless commentary we are trying to avoid, and part of the reason for the existence of the bills mafia in the first place! Thank you for your concern, and I hope this blog meets your expectations!
